Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive end Travon Walker is focusing on
“knowing the way and going the way”
as he embraces a growing leadership role in the 2025 season. After Day 2 of Jaguars’ activities, Walker shared with the media his approach to leadership, emphasizing personal accountability and guiding teammates through his own actions.
Me, I just think it’s number one, honing in on me personally, myself, I have to do things the right way first and then going from there, just try to pour into the other players as they come to me and ask questions,
said the number one overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Leadership Rooted in Actions Rather Than Words
Walker described his leadership style as one of availability combined with setting standards on the field, focusing more on doing the work than just talking about it. He noted that his younger teammates often seek his guidance, a sign of his emerging influence within the team.
Like I said, there are a lot more guys who are younger than me who are coming to me and asking questions and things of that nature. And just leading by example on the field. That’s the main thing.
He also highlighted his dedication to hard work and the passion he brings every game, creating a leadership presence through effort rather than mere words.

Definitely more lead by example. I talk, joke, laugh around, joke around, things of that nature, but I’m more of a go out there and get the job done, and obviously there are a lot of guys that just see the hard work that I put in and the dedication that I have for the love of the game.
Performance and Expectations Growing With Experience
Walker’s impact on the field has steadily risen since entering the NFL. Currently ranked ninth on the Jaguars’ all-time sacks leaderboard, he has accumulated 20.5 sacks over the past two seasons and 24.5 in his first three years. With the defensive guidance of Anthony Campanile, there are high hopes that Walker will continue to elevate his game in his fourth NFL season.
As one of the veterans on a young Jaguars roster, Walker recognizes the increased expectations he faces both on and off the field.
Most definitely. I always felt like I’ve been a leader ever since I was a little kid. My mom and dad always told me to be a leader, not a follower. I feel like I’ve always been a leader.
Helping Lead a Young Jaguars Team Forward
The Jacksonville Jaguars rely heavily on emerging leaders as they build around stars such as Trevor Lawrence, Josh Hines-Allen, and Arik Armstead. Travon Walker, having demonstrated what leadership and commitment look like, understands that it is now his task to show the path forward for his teammates and help sustain team growth.
With his focus on Travon Walker leadership and example, the Jaguars are poised to benefit from his influence as he continues to develop as both a player and a mentor in 2025 and beyond.
