Ben Griffin Eyes Wyndham Championship Comeback After Strong Season and Local Support
Ben Griffin eyes Wyndham Championship comeback after two missed cuts, aiming for stress-free golf at Sedgefield Country Club.

Ben Griffin is preparing to make a comeback at the Wyndham Championship this Thursday after missing the cut in his last two events. The 29-year-old former University of North Carolina golfer looks to regain momentum at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, where he has previously performed well.

Griffin expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament, highlighting the importance of the local crowd and familiar surroundings. His strong past results at the Wyndham Championship include a fourth-place finish at 14-under par in 2022 and a tie for seventh at 12-under in 2024, underscoring his connection to the event.

Strong Season Fueled by Early Victories and Confidence

This season, Griffin has climbed to 17th in the Official World Golf Ranking, riding the wave of two key victories. He partnered with Andrew Novak to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event in April, before securing an individual title at the Charles Schwab Challenge in May. These achievements have set Griffin up with more freedom on the course this year.

“Yeah, this is one of my favorite events of the year, just a lot of family and friends close by. So really excited to come in this week with a lot more freedom than last kind of couple years being on the bubble of the playoffs,”

he said.

“Pretty much locked up a lot of things coming into this week so playing stress-free golf, just trying to play my best and, hopefully, try to win this one because it’s definitely way up there on my list,”

Griffin added.

Building Momentum Despite Recent Setbacks

Before his recent missed cuts at the John Deere Classic and the Open Championship, Griffin had a consistent run of six consecutive finishes of tied for 14th place or better. His performance this year reflects significant progress in his career and personal development.

“Yeah, it certainly hasn’t hurt the confidence, it’s been pretty amazing,”

Griffin remarked about his form.

“Yeah, it’s been an awesome year. And like the last couple years, it’s playing really good golf but I hadn’t quite broken through the way I have this year. Just continued to kind of work hard.”

“Made some changes both physically with my body and then swing’s just in a really good spot, so a lot of the hard work’s really paid off this year. Continued to have built more and more confidence as I’ve gotten the experience against the best players in the world, and yeah, it’s been awesome to play.”

Outlook for the Wyndham Championship and Beyond

With a strong season behind him and the encouragement of a supportive local crowd, Griffin is positioned to make a compelling Wyndham Championship comeback. His confidence and recent physical and technical improvements suggest that he is prepared to contend for another title as the season progresses.

The tournament at Sedgefield may provide the perfect stage for Griffin to continue his upward trajectory, potentially adding to his growing list of accomplishments and solidifying his place among top players in the world.
