Jon Jones Offered Iconic Fedor Emelianenko Fight in Moscow’s Red Square—Here’s Why He Declined
Jon Jones and Fedor Emelianenko's potential fight sparks discussions but remains unlikely due to Jones' UFC commitments.

Jon Jones, the former UFC heavyweight champion, was recently in Russia as a special guest for the IBA bareknuckle boxing event. During his visit, promoter Al Siesta extended an offer for Jones to face Fedor Emelianenko, the legendary former PRIDE FC heavyweight champion, in a bout set to take place in Moscow’s historic Red Square. Despite the high-profile nature of the proposed fight, Jones chose not to accept the challenge.

Reasons Behind Jon Jones’ Decision to Pass on the Bout

Jones, 38, made it clear that his current contractual obligations with the UFC prevent him from engaging in such a fight.

“I’m contractually obligated to the UFC for a very long time,”

he explained, adding,

“No one wants to see Fedor and I fight. I don’t want to fight Fedor. I absolutely love Fedor. He’s been one of my big idols for a very long time. It’s the same thing with Anderson Silva. These guys inspired me in my youth and that will never change.”

Jones is still aiming for his UFC return, targeting the promotion’s White House event slated for summer 2026.

Fedor Emelianenko’s Near-UFC Career and Bareknuckle Comeback

Fedor Emelianenko, 48, is rumored to be returning to bareknuckle fighting after a long and celebrated MMA career. Although he nearly transitioned to the UFC stage—most notably missing a potential bout with Brock Lesnar at Cowboys Stadium due to personal tragedy and contract issues—he never fully realized that opportunity. Emelianenko holds a professional record of 40 wins, 7 losses, and 1 no contest, solidifying his status as a martial arts icon.

Contractual Commitments and Future Prospects

Jon Jones’ choice to decline this fight despite its significance highlights the binding nature of UFC contracts, even for retired fighters. Meanwhile, the IBA promotion continues to build its profile by hosting events in notable locations like Red Square. Both Emelianenko and Jones remain influential figures in combat sports, with fans keenly awaiting their next moves.
