Alex Bregman Pulled from Lineup After Texting Alex Cora: What’s Next for Red Sox Star’s Injury?
Alex Bregman rests against Twins; Red Sox cautious after recent quad injury, hopes to play Astros next week.

Alex Bregman was initially listed second in the batting order for the Red Sox’s Wednesday series finale against the Minnesota Twins but was later taken out of the lineup. This change alarmed fans who feared that Bregman’s quadriceps injury, which had kept him out for nearly two months, might have flared up again. The question arose over the status of the popular infielder’s condition and how it would affect his playing time going forward.

Manager Alex Cora Provides Update on Bregman’s Condition

Before the game at Target Field, Red Sox manager Alex Cora addressed Bregman’s situation and explained the decision to rest him. Cora shared that he had asked Bregman to send a text message in the morning to report how he felt physically. According to Cora, Bregman indicated that his quadriceps felt fine but that he was somewhat fatigued.

“Last night, I told him, ‘Text me in the morning, tell me how you feel,'” —Alex Cora, Red Sox manager

“He feels good with the quad, but a little bit tired.” —Alex Cora, Red Sox manager

When questioned about whether the team’s main concern was to avoid having Bregman play on consecutive days, Cora confirmed this. He wanted to give Bregman the opportunity to be honest about his readiness before making a decision to play or rest him.

“Yeah, that was the thought process,” —Alex Cora, Red Sox manager

“But, you know, (gave) him the chance to be honest with me in the morning. He texted me in the morning, and he’s like, ‘I can go, but I’m a little bit tired.’ So, I’m like, ‘OK.'” —Alex Cora, Red Sox manager

Outlook for Bregman’s Playing Time and Recovery

The Red Sox have an off day scheduled for Thursday, which provides Bregman extra rest ahead of Boston’s upcoming home series against the Houston Astros starting Monday. It remains unclear if Bregman will miss playing time beyond Wednesday’s game, but the additional recovery period could aid his return to full strength.

Since coming off the injured list, Bregman has performed well in limited action, batting .292 with three home runs and an .848 OPS across 13 games and 49 plate appearances. This recent success makes his health a key focus for the team as they aim to maintain competitive momentum in the season.
