Fabio Quartararo has revealed insights gained from observing Lewis Hamilton during a June visit to the Formula 1 paddock at the Barcelona Grand Prix. Using Lewis Hamilton Ferrari lessons, the Yamaha MotoGP rider is now applying those experiences to enhance his team’s approach.
Learning from the F1 Environment
During his time at the F1 event, Quartararo spent time with Hamilton and Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. He was given a unique opportunity to listen to their team radio communications and join in on their post-race debriefs, gaining firsthand exposure to how their engineering teams operate.
“It was interesting to see what Lewis and Charles are talking about with the engineers and that there are a lot of details involved,”
Quartararo told Speedweek.
“I took a lot of positives with me.”

Implementing Strategic Changes at Yamaha
Inspired by these observations, Quartararo has begun restructuring how Yamaha conducts crucial discussions. He emphasized the need for greater clarity and more detailed analysis, especially regarding tyre performance, which is key to race success.
“After Barcelona, I had a meeting with my team,”
Quartararo explained.
“I need more information, especially so that I can understand the tyres better. We’re trying to hold other meetings, we’ve changed our approach a bit since then and I think we’re improving.”
Previously, meetings occurred in the garage, but Quartararo and his team now prefer a dedicated meeting room equipped with a TV to visually analyze data, allowing a more focused and detailed discussion.
“It’s about more details. Of course, we can’t change everything from 0 to 100, but step by step we can adjust it so that we get more information.”

Current Performance and Future Prospects
Yamaha has made significant improvements on Saturdays this season, with Quartararo demonstrating his speed by securing a fourth consecutive pole position at Assen. However, the bike still struggles to maintain pace against stronger rivals throughout the race. To address this, Yamaha is developing a new V4 engine that could transform their competitiveness.
Quartararo is applying pressure on Yamaha to deliver a race-winning package, aware that his position as the highest-paid rider in MotoGP hinges on the team’s progress. Like Hamilton and Leclerc, he is recognized as a top competitor, striving to bring Yamaha back to the forefront of the sport.
