Lewis Hamilton has openly shared his decision to focus fully on his Formula 1 career by embracing a single life, explaining that this choice allows him to dedicate maximum effort to performing at his best. Speaking about his approach, Hamilton emphasized the brevity of a racing career and the importance of avoiding regrets about missed opportunities.
In an interview with French media outlet RTBF, Hamilton highlighted how balancing family life with the demands of Formula 1 is complicated, especially in the modern era. Despite observing other drivers who manage to combine parenthood and relationships with racing, Hamilton decided to prioritize his career by putting personal relationships on hold.
Reasons Behind Hamilton’s Commitment to His Career
During the early years of his career, Hamilton had a periodic relationship with singer Nicole Scherzinger, but since then, his romantic life has remained private, sparking rumors—most recently involving singer Raye after her visit to the Ferrari garage at Silverstone. However, Hamilton made it clear that he deliberately stepped away from romantic commitments to focus on his sport and personal growth.
Hamilton reflected on seeing peers like Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet, who welcomed their daughter Lily in May, managing both family and racing. He acknowledged the challenge of maintaining a private life alongside the intense focus Formula 1 demands.

He stated,
“Yes, it’s very complicated, especially in today’s world. I see other drivers and I wonder how they manage it. Some have children, are married, have girlfriends. I went through that when I was in my twenties. I’ve made a different choice: I’ve decided to maximise the time I have here because it’s shorter than you think. I don’t want to have any regrets, or think that I could have given more.”

Over the last decade, Hamilton has concentrated on his racing performance and, looking ahead to retirement, he plans to devote more time to interests beyond the track without the same constraints.
Hamilton also shared,
“As long as I’m competing, I’m concentrating on my health, my well-being, my mental health and my driving technique. I want to be the best engineer I can be and the best team-mate too. That’s my main objective: I want to win.”

Hamilton’s Goals and Challenges with Ferrari
Widely recognized as one of Formula 1’s greatest, Hamilton holds 105 Grand Prix wins and shares the record for seven World Championships with Michael Schumacher. Yet, his ambition remains undeterred as he targets an eighth title, a milestone that would set him apart as the sport’s most successful driver.
Having ended his long tenure with Mercedes, Hamilton joined Ferrari in 2025, aiming to fulfill his dream of winning a championship with the legendary Italian team. He reflected,
“I’ve been lucky enough to win with some great teams in the past, with Mercedes, with McLaren, it was incredible. But my dream is to win a title with Ferrari. It’s been a long time since that happened.”

Hamilton acknowledged the elements needed for success at Ferrari, saying,
“Ferrari has all the ingredients to win, you just have to put it all together. That’s what I’m trying to do behind the scenes with [team principal] Fred Vasseur and the team.”

Despite those efforts, Hamilton’s start with Ferrari has been difficult compared to teammate Charles Leclerc, who has already secured five podiums this season, including at the recent Belgian Grand Prix where Ferrari unveiled a new rear suspension upgrade. Hamilton finished seventh after an impressive race performance, showcasing his ability to climb through the field.
Addressing the team’s situation, Hamilton stated,
“Everyone in the team works so hard. We obviously had these upgrades. Everyone back in factory works so hard. And then when you come and put a performance like I had in the past two days, it’s tough, because that’s not what the team deserves. It wasn’t a case of necessarily coming in and not being in the right mind through the weekend. There were a few factors that did affect particularly on the Friday, Saturday was just me, but I recovered today, so got some points, outscored Mercedes. Charles did a great job.”

He added,
“Clearly, the car is improving, because Charles was able to hold on to another podium, so I’m going to try hard next week to get across.”

Anticipation Builds for Upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix
As the Formula 1 season approaches the summer break, Hamilton’s focus shifts to the Hungarian Grand Prix, the next critical race where he aims to build momentum with Ferrari and narrow the gap to his teammate. His ongoing commitment to maximizing his F1 career through a single-focused lifestyle remains central to achieving his long-held ambitions.
