Former Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg has revealed details of Lewis Hamilton‘s wild antics during their youth, highlighting their close friendship before they became fierce rivals on the track. These stories came to light during Rosberg’s commentary stint at the recent Belgian Grand Prix, where he reminisced about their adventurous days as kids alongside the focus keyword Lewis Hamilton wild youth antics.
Rosberg claimed the pair were inseparable friends in their junior karting years, often spending holidays together filled with energetic and fearless activities. Despite their later intense competition in Formula 1, their bond during childhood featured many moments spent testing limits and seeking thrills.
Memorable stories from quading to a dramatic jet ski accident
Recalling wild experiences, Rosberg described a vivid scene captured in an old photograph where he and Hamilton were sitting on a quad bike, embodying the fearless spirit they shared.
“We were always on holiday together, we were best friends at the time. So here was us [referring to the picture] actually at my parent’s house flat-out quading. Always with an engine. Full speed on everything,”
Rosberg noted.
He then recounted a jet ski incident that demonstrated Hamilton’s daring nature. Rosberg laughed as he remembered,
“Lewis was proper nuts! I remember once we went jet skiing together (laughs). I was on the back of him on the same jet ski. Oh my god I had such a big shunt I flew off in the biggest way!”
The story continued with even more extreme stunts. Rosberg said,
“And then we went with two stand-up jet skis and I was watching him go off this giant wave from the ferry. He did not lift. I have never seen someone go so high airborne and then he came crashing down and knocked open his chin when he smacked down on the jet ski as he landed (laughs).”
He added,
“He was lying there half unconscious. I had to check that his chin was okay. Complete nutcase!”
From childhood friendship to tense F1 rivalry and signs of reconciliation
Hamilton and Rosberg later became best known for their fierce rivalry as Mercedes teammates between 2014 and 2016, culminating in Rosberg’s 2016 championship win before his surprising retirement. Their competitive relationship often appeared strained, contrasting with the close friendship they once shared as children.

Despite the years of tension, recent signs suggest a softening between the two. Hamilton and his wife, Vivian Sibold, have revealed that Rosberg still leaves gifts for their daughters during Christmas, indicating a possible cooling of past conflicts.
This glimpse into Hamilton’s younger years not only provides a new perspective on his personality but also showcases how even the fiercest rivals once shared deep bonds, shaped by daring and spirited adventures. As Hamilton continues his racing career, stories like these enrich the understanding of the champion beyond the race track.
