Stewart Friesen has been transferred back to the United States following a terrifying accident during Monday’s Super DIRTcar Series race at Autodrome Drummond, Quebec. His wife, Jessica Friesen, provided the latest update Thursday morning, confirming he is now stable and being treated at a Level One trauma center in New York, where he will soon undergo surgery for his injuries.
Details of Injuries and Ongoing Medical Care
Friesen’s wreck occurred while battling for position in a three-wide fight during the dirt modified feature event. His car went high on the straightaway as he entered Turn 3, launching off the track surface and crashing violently into the ARMCO barrier. Following the impact, his car caught fire briefly before sliding back onto the track, where another vehicle collided with him. The crash resulted in a broken pelvis and a fractured right leg, both requiring surgical intervention.
Jessica expressed deep gratitude for the medical teams supporting Stewart throughout the ordeal.
“We are beyond grateful for Dr. Maresca and the staff at Canton-Postdam Hospital for helping us initiate the trauma transfer back to the United States, along with the amazing crew at Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance who did an incredible job keeping Stewart stable and comfortable during his transfer,”
she wrote.
She also noted the importance of care available at the New York trauma center, saying,
“Stewart has successfully made it back to the United States and has been admitted to a Level One trauma center in New York. Stewart’s injuries are extensive, and we are thankful that we have been able to get him to a place that has the experience necessary to complete all of the surgeries that he needs.”
Family Support and the Road Ahead
Jessica highlighted the difficult journey ahead, thanking supporters for their encouragement and pledging to keep the public informed.
“Your prayers and well wishes have encouraged us as we work through Stewart’s road to recovery. This will likely not be a quick journey, but we continue to work to get Stewart back at the top of his game, on track, where he belongs,”
she said.
Friesen’s condition remains serious but stable as he prepares for surgery, which is expected to begin soon. The recovery process is anticipated to be lengthy, but receiving treatment at a specialized trauma center provides hope for a successful rehabilitation and eventual return to racing.

Impact of the Accident on the Racing Community
The violent crash at Autodrome Drummond has resonated deeply within the racing community, emphasizing the dangers drivers face on the track. Friesen’s survival and stabilization are viewed as a relief to fans, teams, and fellow drivers who have followed his career. His progress will be closely monitored, with updates from his family offering insight into his recovery milestones.
As surgeries commence and rehabilitation begins, Friesen’s dedication and resilience will likely inspire many within the motorsports world and beyond, underscoring the fierce determination required to overcome such a significant setback.
