San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has secured his future with the team by signing a five-year, $265 million contract extension before the 2025 NFL season. Purdy expressed a deep sense of contentment with the deal, emphasizing his primary focus on winning rather than financial gain.
Purdy Emphasizes Team Success Over Personal Earnings
During an interview on the Rich Eisen Show, Purdy highlighted his priorities:
“We’ve got to put together a team of guys around me, and let’s win. At the end of the day, let’s win. That’s all I care about,”
he said. He also addressed the business aspect of his career, stating,
“To keep fighting for more millions of dollars, and things like that, it’s like, I’ve got to keep it simple.”
He further reflected,
“I know what’s most important in my life, and that’s my family, my faith, and then obviously coming here and elevating everybody else’s game and helping us win. For me, another however many millions of dollars, that’s not going to satisfy me. I have everything that I need.”
Contract Details and Purdy’s Perspective on His Role
Purdy was due to earn $5.34 million on the final year of his rookie contract in 2025 before agreeing to the lucrative extension with the 49ers. His new deal places him fifth among all NFL quarterbacks in total contract value and eighth in average annual salary, according to Over the Cap data.
In May, Purdy was vocal about pushing back against rumors that he would accept a pay cut to stay with San Francisco, the team that made him their full-time starter after selecting him last in the 2022 NFL draft.
“There’s 32 starting quarterbacks, and those guys, it’s not the easiest job in the world,”
Purdy said.
“And for me, with what I’ve done and everything, I can hang my hat on the fact that I’ve had success in this league, and I’m capable of leading an organization all the way to the end, to a Super Bowl.”
49ers Look Ahead to a Strong Season With Purdy at the Helm
With the contract now finalized, the 49ers are intent on not missing the playoffs for a second consecutive year. The team hopes that Purdy’s leadership, combined with impactful seasons from stars like Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams, will fuel another Super Bowl-contending campaign. The 49ers will kick off their season on September 7 with a road game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Reflecting on the deal, Purdy said,
“It’s a business, so we did the business side of things. But outside of that, I’m content. I know the Niners are as well. And now you just surround yourself with a good team and go win, man.”
