Kevin Love mocks WNBA security after second flying sex toy disrupts game in one week

Kevin Love, known for his sharp social media presence, addressed the ongoing issue of sex toys being thrown onto the court during WNBA games. This weekend, the Utah Jazz center commented on a recent incident during the Golden State Valkyries and Chicago Sky matchup, marking the second time in just a few days that a flying sex toy interrupted the action.

The first event occurred three days earlier at the Gateway Center Arena, during a game between the Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream. In response to the newest disruption, Love posted a humorous Instagram clip of a comedy sketch showing an instructor demonstrating how to defend against an attacker wielding phallic objects.

“WNBA security getting an upgrade,” Love wrote in the caption of his IG post.

Both incidents happened during closely contested moments in the games. On Tuesday, the Valkyries were tied at 75 points with one minute remaining in the fourth quarter when the object was thrown on the court. Then on Friday, the Chicago Sky held a narrow 39-37 advantage over the Valkyries before play was again interrupted.

While Love’s reaction was lighthearted, several WNBA players expressed serious concern about the safety risks. Golden State Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini described the Tuesday incident as “super dangerous,” and New York Liberty’s Isabelle Harrison criticized the arena security for failing to prevent such disruptions.

Recent trade sends Love to struggling Western Conference team, with playful online response

Aside from his comments on the WNBA situation, Love has shown he can laugh at his own career changes. After a three-team trade last month moved him to the Utah Jazz — a team near the bottom of the Western Conference last season — Love shared a comedic clip featuring a character being kicked out of town.

This move marked the third trade involving Love since his NBA debut in 2008. His draft rights were originally traded on draft night from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The latest trade was first reported by Shams Charania in early July.

Ongoing security issues raise concerns during competitive WNBA matches

The repeated airborne sex toy incidents have sparked frustration about arena security, especially since disruptions came during pivotal moments in both games. The situation highlights the challenges of maintaining player and fan safety during live sporting events, and calls for enhanced security measures may grow louder in coming weeks.

Given the responses from WNBA players and observers like Kevin Love, the league and venues will likely reexamine their protocols to prevent further interruptions. Ensuring a safe and respectful environment remains critical as the WNBA continues its season.
