Twins’ Joe Ryan Breaks Silence After Viral Red Sox Trade Deadline Fakeout Leaves Fans Stunned
Joe Ryan stays with the Twins after false report of trade to Red Sox at MLB Trade Deadline drama.

Joe Ryan was not traded to the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, though many were led to believe otherwise in the final hour of the MLB trade deadline. FOX Sports MLB briefly posted a graphic on X announcing the right-hander’s trade to Boston, only to delete it minutes later, leaving fans and Ryan himself in a state of confusion.

The incident occurred as the Red Sox were reportedly renewing trade discussions with the Minnesota Twins over acquiring the All-Star pitcher. Despite the buzz, Ryan remained with the Twins after the deadline passed without a deal.

Ryan’s Emotional Reaction Amid Trade Deadline Drama

Ryan shared with Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star-Tribune that he personally saw the erroneous report and initially believed the trade was complete. “It’s been a whirlwind,” Ryan said.

“I felt like I threw a whole game (Thursday) with a lot of emotions. I was kind of in a weird state of mind and physically pretty exhausted, too.”

At the time, Ryan was with relief pitcher Griffin Jax, who was shortly traded to the Tampa Bay Rays after the incorrect graphic was removed. Ryan described the atmosphere as chaotic, reflecting the uncertainty around the deadline moves.

“We were hearing so many different things,”

he said.

“The weird part is what we expected. It feels a little bit different than what some of us were led to believe. That was interesting.”

Twins’ Massive Deadline Roster Overhaul

While Ryan stayed put, the Minnesota Twins made significant roster changes, trading away ten major league players, including notable stars like three-time All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa and closer Jhoan Duran. Despite the clear roster shakeup, Ryan remains under team control for another two and a half years, anchoring the staff for the near future.

Future Prospects for Ryan and the Red Sox

Although Ryan was not part of the deadline trades, the Red Sox could revisit acquiring him during the offseason as the Twins appear to enter a rebuild phase. Ryan, having already experienced the emotional rollercoaster of believing he’d been traded once, may be prepared if the Red Sox pursue him again.
