The Los Angeles Angels have brought back two vital players as they aim to break their postseason drought dating back over ten years. Mike Trout returns to the lineup after missing two games due to illness, and top prospect Christian Moore has been activated from the 10-day injured list, boosting the team’s roster depth.
Moore’s Recovery and Impact on the Field
Christian Moore, a 22-year-old second baseman, had been sidelined since July 2 after suffering a sprained left thumb. During his rehab, Moore appeared in four games at Single-A Inland Empire, where he hit five times in eleven at-bats, including a home run. According to MLB Pipeline, Moore remains the Angels’ No. 1 prospect and ranks 46th overall in the league.
Before his injury, Moore posted a .189 batting average with three home runs and eight RBIs in 19 games, an effort impacted by a diving play at second base that led to his stint on the injured list. On Sunday, Moore started at second base in the series finale against the Chicago White Sox, marking his return to major league action.
It was a little longer than expected, but I think that was just part of the process and let it heal completely,
Moore said.
Just wanted to make sure I was 100 percent before I put my body on the line for these guys. But I’m super excited to be back. I missed these guys.

Mike Trout’s Return and Current Status
Mike Trout, 33, resumed his role as the designated hitter on Sunday but has yet to return to the outfield because of a bone bruise in his surgically repaired left knee. Despite this limitation, Trout has contributed a .235 batting average with 19 home runs and 47 RBIs through 83 games this season.
Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery expressed optimism about the players’ return, stating,
Mike came in with way more energy and is in a good spot, and C-Mo is back after a few nice games down there,
and added,
It’s good. It gives us what we’re used to playing with.
Roster Moves and Team Outlook
To accommodate Moore’s activation, the Angels optioned infielder Scott Kingery to Triple-A Salt Lake after Saturday’s game. Kingery appeared in 14 games this season, batting .160 with four hits in 25 at-bats. The return of both Trout and Moore provides a meaningful boost to Los Angeles, who entered Sunday 5½ games behind the final American League wild-card spot, striving to secure their first postseason appearance since 2014.
Significance for the Angels’ Playoff Aspirations
The reintegration of Mike Trout and Christian Moore comes at a critical moment for the Angels, offering both leadership and youthful talent as the team battles for a coveted playoff berth. With Trout’s experience and Moore’s promising potential, the Angels look better positioned to enhance their lineup and improve their chances in the stretch run of the season.
