Amanda Anisimova Canadian Open Exit Explained: Reveals Illness Behind Unexpected Loss to Elina Svitolina
Amanda Anisimova exits Canadian Open, beaten by Svitolina; posts on Instagram about feeling unwell, eyeing Cincinnati Open.

Amanda Anisimova’s run at the Canadian Open ended after a straight-sets loss to Elina Svitolina in the fourth round. This tournament marked Anisimova’s first competitive appearance since her Wimbledon final defeat, and although she started strong, she could not maintain her momentum against the experienced Ukrainian player.

Having demonstrated excellent form by convincingly defeating Emma Raducanu in the third round, Anisimova appeared poised to advance further. However, the 6-4, 6-1 loss to Svitolina came as a surprise, leaving many wondering about the reasons for such a decisive defeat.

Anisimova Shares Reason for Struggles After the Match

Last year, Anisimova reached the Canadian Open final, signaling her return to the top ranks of women’s tennis. This year, she aimed to improve on that performance but was halted earlier than expected. Fans and pundits noticed a noticeable dip in her energy and performance compared to her match against Raducanu.

Anisimova later addressed her followers on Instagram, revealing that she had been feeling unwell during her defeat. She wrote,

Fell a bit ill today, but gave it my all regardless (prayer and heart emojis). Thank you always Canada.

What the Future Holds for Anisimova After Canadian Open Exit

This early departure will cost Anisimova 530 ranking points, dropping her from seventh to eighth place in the world rankings. Although this is a setback, she now has a chance to regain ground at the Cincinnati Open, where she will participate next.

Unlike last year, when she skipped Cincinnati, Anisimova will be seeded at this year’s event for the first time, which grants her a bye in the first round. The tournament kicks off on August 7 and presents a valuable opportunity for her to challenge her top 10 competitors.

Despite never advancing beyond the third round in Cincinnati since her appearance there as a 16-year-old, this year’s seeding could be a positive advantage for Anisimova as she looks to improve her standing on the WTA tour.
