Norman Powell is the newest addition to the Miami Heat roster as they prepare for the upcoming season. After an impressive campaign with the LA Clippers, where he shot 41.8% from three-point range on 7.1 attempts per game, Powell brings a strong scoring threat to Erik Spoelstra’s team. Bam Adebayo expressed his enthusiasm for Powell’s arrival during his annual youth basketball clinic, highlighting the fresh dynamic Powell adds to the Heat’s lineup.
It’s a very good shake-up for our team and now there’s a different dynamic to it,
Adebayo told Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.
…I feel like Norman is one of those guys who floats under the radar. But as you saw this year, he’s really shown that he can be an All-Star caliber player. You’ve seen what he’s done and you’ve seen him grow in this league. And, obviously, he wants to take the next challenge. Obviously, the next challenge is being with the Miami Heat. So I’m happy to have him.
Powell’s ability to space the floor will be crucial for Miami this season, especially as he helps fill the gap left by Duncan Robinson. His multi-level scoring and dependable defense will provide the Heat with more versatility. For Adebayo, having another seasoned player to rely on during hand-off plays around the perimeter strengthens their offensive sets and adds depth to the squad.

Bam Adebayo Highlights Importance of Davion Mitchell’s Return
Adebayo also commented on Miami’s decision to re-sign Davion Mitchell, a defensive specialist who joined the team via trade from the Toronto Raptors earlier this year. Mitchell recently secured a two-year, $24 million contract after demonstrating his value as a lockdown on-ball defender throughout the latter part of the past season.
Davion being back, obviously, we’ve been missing somebody that can really play on-ball defense,
Adebayo explained.
And having him come in and be that guy and understand his role, I’m looking forward to him being here for a full year and all of us being together and getting to know one another and turning this into more of a brotherhood. We were kind of disconnected a little bit trying to figure out everybody’s role and trying to figure out everybody’s style of play. But now we’re going to have a good training camp and then we go from there.
Mitchell is known as one of the league’s more tenacious perimeter defenders, excelling at navigating screens and disrupting opposing guards and wings. Under Spoelstra’s guidance, Mitchell’s presence will help the Heat maintain a strong defensive identity moving forward this season.
Potential Frontcourt Boost: Miami Targets Veteran Precious Achiuwa
The Heat are also exploring options to strengthen their frontcourt depth, with Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints identifying Precious Achiuwa as a potential free agent signing. Miami’s roster currently lacks sufficient depth in the frontcourt, particularly if the team plans to start Kel’el Ware alongside Bam Adebayo.
One team that could still use some frontcourt help this offseason is the Miami Heat,
Siegel wrote.
Not only does this fit make sense because Achiuwa can play behind Bam Adebayo and improve his all-around game, but the former Knicks big man recently purchased a two-bedroom condo in South Beach…Miami has an open roster spot, and they can sign Achiuwa without crossing their first-apron hard cap…Prediction: Precious Achiuwa stays in Eastern Conference, joins Heat frontcourt behind Bam Adebayo.
Achiuwa would complement Miami’s defense-first approach, offering positional versatility and toughness that head coach Spoelstra demands. If Pat Riley approves the move, Achiuwa could contribute significantly to the second unit while remaining a cost-effective piece for the team.
Looking Ahead: How These Moves Shape the Heat’s Future
With Norman Powell’s arrival, Bam Adebayo’s endorsement signifies the confidence Miami’s core has in their new teammate. Powell’s combination of shooting and defense along with Mitchell’s defensive experience adds fresh dimensions to a team eager to contend. Meanwhile, bolstering the frontcourt through potential additions like Precious Achiuwa could address the team’s depth concerns and enhance their competitiveness.
The Miami Heat appear committed to strengthening their roster’s balance and resilience before the new season begins. As training camp approaches, these roster developments will be closely watched as the team aims to forge a cohesive and competitive lineup poised to challenge deep into the playoffs.
