Tiger Woods praises Ian Baker-Finch's retirement, honoring his 30-year broadcasting career with heartfelt gratitude and lasting memories.

Ian Baker-Finch, a former Open Championship winner, recently announced his retirement from on-course broadcasting after 30 years covering golf. He spent the last 19 years as a key voice for CBS Sports’ PGA Tour coverage before deciding to step away in order to spend more time with his family and pursue other interests. Baker-Finch revealed that contract discussions with Golf Channel did not result in an agreement, leading him to finalize his decision.

Reflecting on the Timing Behind Baker-Finch’s Retirement

Speaking on Golf Central ahead of an event, Baker-Finch shared insight into his choice to retire:

I always knew that I’d know when I felt like it was the right time,

he said.

I’ve been mulling over the decision for quite a while now this year. My contract was up, I know I’d love to stay in so many ways … this year was my 41st time at those events (Masters, RBC Heritage, etc.) as a player and announcer and I said ‘You know, that’s too long.’ There’s other things to be done. I’ve lost a few friends, unfortunately, rest their souls, and I’m 65 at the end of the year and figured it was a good time to step away and go do something else.
