Scottie Scheffler shines in "Happy Gilmore 2" cameo, humorously referencing his infamous green altercation. Hollywood meets golf!

Scottie Scheffler, currently ranked as the World No. 1 golfer, has expanded his reach beyond the golf course with a cameo appearance in Happy Gilmore 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Adam Sandler’s iconic 1996 golf comedy. The film includes over 30 appearances from renowned golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, and Jack Nicklaus, adding star power from the sport to the movie’s lineup.

Before the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind on August 6, Scheffler joined TODAY, where he discussed his experience stepping into Hollywood. Host Craig Melvin kicked off the conversation by saying:

“We gotta ask you about this cameo. My son and I, we saw it over the weekend. You’re a movie star now… What was that like, Scottie?”

Scheffler responded with enthusiasm:

“Yeah, that was a lot of fun. It was a real treat for us to be able to go do that. I mean, Gilmore got a tremendous turnout from a lot of the current PGA Tour players and some past players as well. You know, I think we all loved that movie growing up and so we were all glad to be a part of it. I had a lot of fun getting to see how they, really see how a movie was made. Get to see how Adam Sandler does what he does and why everybody is, and why all his movies are so good. And it was a lot of fun just to have that experience and to be a part of the movie. It was pretty cool. We had a lot of fun doing it.”

One memorable scene features Scheffler being arrested on the golf course after punching someone, humorously responding, Not again, a nod to his widely reported arrest during the 2024 PGA Championship. This moment blends his real-life experiences with the movie’s comedic tone, showcasing his willingness to engage with the story in a lighthearted way.

Scheffler’s Dominance Continues Into 2025 Season

Scottie Scheffler’s strong performances have carried into 2025, as he currently leads the FedEx Cup points race and maintains his position at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking. Following an outstanding 2024, he has claimed victories at several prestigious tournaments this season, including the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the Memorial Tournament, the PGA Championship, and the Open Championship.

Despite a slow start to the year caused by a puncture wound sustained on Christmas Day, Scheffler bounced back quickly. He has competed in 16 tournaments in 2025, making the cut in every event and winning four of them. His PGA Tour earnings for the year total $19,202,883, pushing his career winnings close to $91 million.

Beyond tournament winnings, Scheffler has accumulated $37.2 million in 2025 when including bonuses from various competitions. Notable amounts contributing to this total are:

  1. $3.1 million from his victory at The Open Championship
  2. $10 million regular season bonus for leading the FedEx Cup standings
  3. $8 million from the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 payout

Although Scheffler has not played since his July Open Championship win, he finished the regular season as the FedEx Cup No. 1, securing an additional $10 million in bonuses. Changes to the FedEx Cup format this year mean no bonus strokes will be awarded, but Scheffler is assured another $5 million for leading the playoff standings following the BMW Championship.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Scheffler?

As Scottie Scheffler prepares for the upcoming FedEx St. Jude Championship, his position as the world’s top golfer and point leader in the FedEx Cup playoffs put him in an enviable position. The playoffs offer substantial prize money, and with his recent form and momentum, Scheffler’s 2025 earnings and accomplishments could rise even further.

His crossover from the golf course to a Hollywood cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 reveals a different dimension to the athlete, showing both his sense of humor and his passion for the sport’s popular culture. The combination of his on-course success and his broadening public appeal underscores Scheffler’s rising influence in golf and beyond.
