Stewart Friesen injury recovery update: Undergoing physical therapy after hospital release, thankful for successful surgeries.

Stewart Friesen is recovering at home following a serious crash during a Super DIRTcar Series race last week, forcing him to miss the upcoming NASCAR Truck playoffs. The 42-year-old sustained multiple injuries in the accident at Autodrome Drummond in Quebec, Canada, and his absence has led to Kaden Honeycutt and Christopher Bell stepping in as replacement drivers.

Friesen’s Recovery After Serious Racing Crash

The crash occurred while Friesen was competing in a Big Block Dirt Modified race when his car went airborne and was hit by another vehicle upon landing. Following the incident, he was hospitalized at Albany Medical Center before being released to continue recovery at home, as shared by his wife, Jessica.

“Stewart continues to be in pain as he recovers, but we are very happy to have him at home to recoup before we start the physical therapy process,”

Jessica stated, expressing gratitude toward the Albany Medical Center trauma team for their care.

Details of Friesen’s Injuries and Surgery

Jessica’s update revealed the extent of Friesen’s injuries, which include a shattered pelvis and multiple fractures requiring surgical reconstruction. The complex procedures involved repairing his right leg’s tibia and fibula, along with the placement of various plates, screws, rods, and pins. Additionally, he is healing from a fractured C7 vertebra and a fractured left hip.

“The procedures to reconstruct his shattered pelvis and his right leg tibia and fibula went smoothly,”

the statement continued.

“He has some extra plates, screws, rods, and pins as well as a fractured C7 and fractured left hip but we are thankful to finally be on the other side of these injuries and on the road to recovery.”

Impact on Racing Schedule and Team Adjustments

This weekend’s race at Watkins Glen will mark Friesen’s first NASCAR Truck Series absence since the fall of 2020 at Kansas Speedway, when he opted to participate in a Short Track Super Series event at Port Royal Speedway instead. To fill the void in the No. 52 truck, Kaden Honeycutt will drive throughout the playoffs, except for Watkins Glen where Christopher Bell will substitute.

Friesen has built a significant career in the Truck Series, accumulating 200 starts and four wins. His recovery journey will determine when he can return to competitive racing, leaving the team and fans hopeful but uncertain about the timeline ahead.
