When it was announced that the San Francisco 49ers have the “easiest” strength of schedule for the upcoming 2025 NFL season based on last year’s data, tight end George Kittle pushed back against that notion. Speaking on The Richard Sherman Podcast, Kittle emphasized that no game is truly easy in the NFL, regardless of opponents’ past performance.
Kittle explained,
“That’s what’s crazy. The Niners have the ‘easiest’ strength of schedule this year. It’s like — it’s the NFL. It’s hard regardless.”
He pointed out that while the 49ers might not face top-ranked teams from every division or conference, the competition remains fierce because every team prepares and plays at a high level.
“So what are you talking about, easiest schedule? Relax. I still have to go out and play for 60 minutes and find a way to get a dub,”
Kittle added.
Context and Performance Behind the 49ers’ Upcoming Season
The 49ers wrapped up a tough 2024 campaign, finishing last in the NFC West with a 6-11 record. Despite the challenges, their 2025 opponents combined for a 120-169 record last season, reflecting a .415 winning percentage. Among NFL teams that finished in last place in their division, San Francisco actually had one of the better records.
Kittle highlighted that teams in the 49ers’ situation often bring intense motivation to bounce back. “No one likes to lose,” he told Sherman.
“Usually, the teams that didn’t play well last year are the most hungry to go out there and do it again anyway. So you’re getting the most hungry damn teams every single year.”
That hunger, he suggested, will be a driving force heading into the new season.
Additional Insights and Team Preparedness for 2025
Alongside Kittle’s perspective, 49ers general manager John Lynch has shared lighter moments in preparation, including jokes about his use of smelling salts before games, demonstrating the mix of intensity and humor within the organization.
San Francisco’s recent joint practices, such as their strong offensive showing against the Broncos’ defense, also suggest the team is focused on improvement and ready to compete. With the 2025 schedule ahead, the 49ers are determined to turn things around while reminding fans that the NFL offers no shortcuts, no matter the strength of schedule.
