Rafael Devers trade impacts Boston Red Sox as pitcher Kyle Harrison shines with dominant Triple-A performance against Buffalo.

Nearly two months after Kyle Harrison was traded to the Boston Red Sox as part of the Rafael Devers trade impact pitcher deal, the young left-hander has yet to make his major league debut. Instead, he has spent his time developing his skills with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, delivering consistent efforts on the mound throughout the summer.

On Thursday afternoon, Harrison took the mound against the Buffalo Bisons and turned in one of his best outings since joining Boston’s organization.

Dominant Start Against Buffalo Bisons Highlights Progress

Harrison’s performance featured five scoreless innings, where he allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters while issuing three walks. According to the SoxProspects.com Bluesky account, Harrison threw 99 pitches, 61 of which were strikes, and recorded 11 swinging strikes in total.

“Kyle Harrison’s day is done. Final line: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K 99 pitches / 61 strikes 11 swinging strikes, 48% 4-Seam Fastballs (7 whiffs) 27% Slurves (1 whiff) 17% Sliders (3 whiffs) 7% Changeups.”

This marked only Harrison’s second scoreless start with Worcester, the first being a 3 2/3-inning outing against the Rochester Red Wings on July 13. The two hits allowed in this game were the fewest he has given up in eight appearances with the Triple-A team, and his seven strikeouts were just one shy of his season high, which he set back in April while pitching for Triple-A Sacramento.

Potential Path to Boston Rotation Remains Open

Overall, Harrison holds a 3-2 record, with a 3.96 ERA and 36 strikeouts across 36 1/3 innings pitched this season for Worcester. Although the Red Sox currently do not have a spot available in their major league rotation for Harrison, his recent performances suggest that a promotion could be forthcoming if he continues to pitch effectively.

As the season progresses, Harrison’s continued development as a prospect acquired in the Rafael Devers trade impact pitcher deal may soon lead to a debut with the Boston Red Sox, adding depth to their pitching staff and validating the organization’s investment.
