Shane van Gisbergen has officially signed a multi-year contract extension with Trackhouse Racing, the team announced on Friday. The Auckland native joined Trackhouse’s NASCAR Cup Series lineup this year, driving the No. 88 WeatherTech Chevrolet as their third full-time competitor, fulfilling his initial development agreement with owner Justin Marks.
Expanding Influence in NASCAR’s Top Division
With this new deal, Van Gisbergen is positioned to remain a key part of Trackhouse’s NASCAR Cup Series efforts for multiple future seasons. He brings extensive road course expertise along with a rapidly improving skill set on oval tracks, demonstrating his adaptability to NASCAR’s demanding environment in the United States.
Van Gisbergen expressed his gratitude for the opportunity early on, saying,
“I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home. Trackhouse gave me the opportunity to race at Chicago in 2023. That was just a one-race deal, and everything that has happened since then is because of the chance Justin [Marks] took on me. The men and women at Trackhouse have helped me feel at home in this new challenge, and I’ve been loving every minute of it. We still have a lot of work to do, but I couldn’t be happier.”

A Rising Star Making Playoff Debut This Fall
At 36 years of age, Van Gisbergen is on the verge of his inaugural NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs appearance this Fall. He secured three significant road course wins this season at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the Chicago Street Course, and Sonoma Raceway. These achievements come after a breakout 2022 victory at the first-ever Chicago Street Race, which marked his arrival in NASCAR and set the stage for his move to the U.S.
Following his Chicago success, Van Gisbergen competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a season before advancing to the premier Cup Series, cementing his status as a leading talent in American stock car racing.

Justin Marks praised Van Gisbergen’s transition and performance, stating,
“We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing. What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He’s moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing and at times dominated the competition. He’s one of the greatest.”
—Justin Marks, Trackhouse Racing Owner
Setting Records and Building Experience Across NASCAR
In his brief NASCAR career, Van Gisbergen has set multiple records including the most wins by a rookie, the fastest to three wins in recent times, and the highest number of victory finishes by a foreign-born driver in the Cup Series. Though still gaining experience on oval tracks, he has made impressive strides, highlighted by a 14th-place finish at the Coca-Cola 600, one of NASCAR’s toughest challenges.
This weekend, Van Gisbergen will aim to capture his fourth NASCAR Cup Series victory in 2025, further solidifying his reputation as a formidable competitor on all types of tracks.
Van Gisbergen’s Future with Trackhouse and NASCAR
This contract extension signals Trackhouse’s confidence in Van Gisbergen’s growing impact and their commitment to building a competitive future around his talents. As he continues to adapt and excel, his role within the organization is expected to expand, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of the NASCAR Cup Series in the years to come.
