Neemias Queta, the Boston Celtics center, is drawing increasing attention from fans as a leading candidate for the team’s starting center position with the 2025-26 season approaching. This shift comes after Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet moved to other teams, and with Al Horford expected to leave Boston, Queta’s role is poised to expand significantly.
Queta, who recently turned 26 years old, showcased his growing potential during an exhibition game in Malaga where he led Portugal to an upset win over Spain. He scored 17 points, including a decisive game-winning dunk, and grabbed nine rebounds, signaling his readiness for a larger role on the court.
Promising Performance Ahead of EuroBasket and Next NBA Season
The basketball community’s interest in Queta is set to increase as he prepares to compete in the 42nd EuroBasket tournament from August 27 to September 14, hosted across Latvia, Poland, Finland, and Cyprus. His performance at this event will be closely watched as an indicator of his continued growth.
During a recent visit to Queta’s hometown of Lisbon, CLSN Media’s Bobby Manning conducted a detailed interview with the Celtics center, who is also running his second annual youth basketball camp. Queta expressed optimism about the Celtics’ chances in the upcoming season despite roster changes.
Obviously, the roster’s going to be different, but I’m not (holding) any different expectations,
Queta said.
I think we’re still in a good position. JT’s recovering well … JB’s recovering well, so hopefully we can get going, build a foundation again with the new team, with the new guys … we just want to keep on going and build on the foundation that we had … the last couple of years.
—Neemias Queta, Boston Celtics Center
Queta’s Impact on the Celtics’ Frontcourt Strength
Despite often being overlooked, Queta’s stats reveal his potential impact. Over 110 career games, he has averaged 13.9 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per 36 minutes, underlining his ability to contribute on both ends of the floor.
With Boston’s frontcourt undergoing changes, Queta’s presence offers a more solid foundation than many anticipate. As the Celtics prepare for the new season with coach Joe Mazzulla at the helm, Queta is positioned to receive significant playing time, making him a key player to watch.
