Stephen Curry serves as the unwavering anchor of the Warriors' legacy, shaping Steve Kerr's coaching journey and franchise success.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has openly recognized Stephen Curry as central to both the team’s legacy and his own coaching career during an appearance on the Glue Guys Podcast. Kerr emphasized that Curry’s presence has been crucial throughout his 11 years as the Warriors’ coach, describing the star point guard as the foundation of their long-term success.

I’m well aware that the reason I’m still here is because Steph Curry is still here,

Kerr stated.

I’m not being modest; I’m just telling the truth. If I didn’t have Steph, I would have been like every other NBA coach and lasted a few years, and then gone somewhere else and coached somewhere else.

These remarks offer a rare glimpse into how essential Curry has been to Kerr’s sustained tenure with the franchise.

The Partnership Behind Four NBA Championships

Kerr has been at the Warriors’ helm since 2014, steering the team to four NBA titles and becoming the winningest coach in franchise history. He attributes much of their excellence to his enduring partnership with Curry, who Kerr credits with providing stability within the organization. This reliability, Kerr explains, has made the entire team’s efforts more manageable and consistent over time.

I’m incredibly lucky to have this partnership with Steph,

Kerr said.

He provides this stability and continuity with the organization that just makes everybody’s job easier.

This steady dynamic has helped the Warriors navigate many challenges, including roster changes and injuries, highlighting Curry’s role as more than just a player—he is the anchor of a defining basketball era.

Facing the Inevitable Transition Ahead for the Warriors

Looking to the future, questions remain about how the Warriors will adapt as their core leaders, including Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler, enter the final chapters of their careers. The front office has already begun reshaping the roster, aware that the championship window is narrowing. Kerr’s continuation with the team may hinge on Curry’s decision to remain active, as a rebuilding phase without Curry could signal an end to Kerr’s coaching run in Golden State.

The duo of Kerr and Curry has forged a unique legacy spanning more than ten years, with multiple championships and MVP honors underscoring their story. Their eventual departure may mark the close of a remarkable era, symbolizing two legends leaving together after shared triumphs.

Enduring Passion for the Game Despite Uncertainty

Despite this uncertainty, Kerr admits that walking away from coaching is never easy, especially when the potential for future success remains. The desire to compete at the highest level and chase another championship continues to inspire both him and Curry to remain engaged. Often, the decision to retire or leave the game arrives later than expected because of this compelling drive.

Currently, neither Curry nor Kerr is showing signs of stepping back, leaving the Warriors focused on seizing every opportunity to extend their legacy. They understand that once the player-coach partnership concludes, an entire chapter in basketball history will close, making each game a meaningful tribute to their shared accomplishments.
