Breece Hall Trade Rumors Heat Up as Jets Consider Move Ahead of NFL Deadline

As the NFL trade deadline approaches, speculation is growing around the New York Jets possibly trading running back Breece Hall. This comes amid a new coaching regime, with head coach Aaron Glenn expressing a preference for a committee approach in the backfield. Despite Glenn addressing Hall directly to dispel rumors earlier this offseason, the talks about a potential move have not subsided.

Coaching Staff’s Confidence in Backup Running Backs

According to NFL insider Tony Pauline from Sportskeeda, sources close to the Jets indicate that the team could part ways with Hall in favor of promoting RB Braelon Allen as the starter and RB Isaiah Davis as his backup. The coaching staff has reportedly been impressed with the performance of both backs, which may influence their decision to trade Hall before the deadline.

Breece Hall’s Background and Recent Performance

Breece Hall, 24, had a distinguished college career at Iowa State, where he was a two-time All-American and twice named Big 12 player of the year. The Jets selected him early in the second round, with the 36th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Hall signed a four-year deal worth just over $9 million, which includes a $3.7 million signing bonus. His contract runs through 2025, after which he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

During the 2024 season, Hall played in 16 games, carrying the ball 209 times for 876 yards, averaging 4.2 yards per carry, and scoring five rushing touchdowns. He also contributed in the passing game, catching 57 passes on 76 targets for 483 yards and three touchdowns, demonstrating his dual-threat capability as a running back.

What This Could Mean for the Jets Moving Forward

If the Jets decide to trade Hall, the move would signify a strategic shift toward developing younger talent in Allen and Davis. This approach aligns with the coaching staff’s vision of a running back committee, potentially offering more versatility in their offensive schemes. The trade deadline decision will be crucial in shaping the Jets’ roster and offensive identity for the remainder of the season.

More updates on Breece Hall and the Jets’ roster moves will be available as the deadline draws closer.
