Eagles’ Landon Dickerson Suffers Meniscus Knee Injury, Future Playing Time Uncertain

The Philadelphia Eagles, reigning Super Bowl champions, faced a potential setback during practice as Landon Dickerson, their starting guard, sustained a meniscus injury to his right knee. The incident occurred late in a recent practice session, prompting uncertainty about how much playing time Dickerson may miss in the upcoming season. This Landon Dickerson knee injury could affect the Eagles’ offensive line stability as they prepare for the 2025 campaign.

Details and Immediate Impact of the Injury

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dickerson is exploring further medical evaluations to determine the severity of the damage and the best treatment approach. The injury happened over two hours into practice when Dickerson went down during a passing drill. He remained on the ground for several minutes as his teammates gathered around him before being assisted off the field and ultimately carted to the locker room. Schefter reported that Dickerson was unable to support any weight on his right leg following the injury.

ESPN’s Tim McManus noted Dickerson was already listed on the injury report with a knee issue after a Thursday preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he was not listed for Sunday’s practice before the injury occurred.

Replacing a Key Player Amid Uncertainty

Landon Dickerson has been essential to the Eagles’ success, playing a major role in their second Super Bowl victory and earning Pro Bowl honors in each of the last three seasons. His performance helped running back Saquon Barkley achieve an outstanding season with 2,504 rushing yards, including postseason gains. Prior to the 2024 season, Dickerson secured a four-year, $84 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid guard in NFL history.

Following the injury, veteran offensive lineman Brett Toth stepped in to fill Dickerson’s position during practice. Toth, who has six years of NFL experience, had not appeared in any games during the 2024 season prior to this opportunity.

Potential Consequences for the Eagles’ Season

If Dickerson requires a lengthy recovery period, the Eagles could face significant challenges maintaining their championship form. The stability and effectiveness of the offensive line are crucial for protecting quarterback Jalen Hurts and supporting the running game. Without Dickerson, the team’s chances of returning to the Super Bowl this season may be diminished, adding pressure on other players to step up in his absence.
