On Sunday, Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams addressed the disturbing trend of sex toys being thrown onto the court during WNBA games, describing how she would have reacted if such an incident had happened while playing against the New York Liberty. Her remarks highlight growing concerns about player safety amid these shocking disruptions.

Williams stated,

“They lucky they ain’t throw no dildo last night, I was gone pick that b**** up and throw it right at him.”

Recap of Multiple Disruptions Across Cities

In recent weeks, fans in cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and New York have thrown neon-green sex toys either onto the court or into the stands. These acts appear to be stunts or attempts at gaining viral attention but have raised serious questions about respect and safety at WNBA events.

One near-miss incident involved Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham on August 5 during a game against the LA Sparks, when a toy almost hit her. Concerns intensified when another sex toy narrowly missed a 12-year-old spectator at Barclays Center during a New York Liberty versus Dallas Wings game.

Security footage from the New York event identified a suspect wearing a Beavis and Butthead T-shirt, and the NYPD continues its investigation to locate the individual responsible.

League’s Response and Law Enforcement Actions

The WNBA has denounced these disruptions and increased security measures, such as enforcing no-bag policies for attendees. The league has issued warnings that anyone found throwing such objects will face at least a one-year ban alongside potential legal action, including felony charges.

Authorities are working with local police and federal agencies to pursue arrests and prosecutions. In some states, including Georgia, charges could result in offenders registering as sex offenders depending on the nature of the offense, such as indecent exposure.

Williams Faces Fines for Uniform Violations Amidst Season Challenges

In addition to her outspoken stance on safety, Courtney Williams has also faced penalties this season for wearing sneakers that violate league regulations. Williams has repeatedly worn Moolah Kicks, a sneaker brand that lacks an official WNBA contract, leading to multiple fines.

She has reportedly been fined four times for this uniform breach. This situation echoes the early NBA career of Michael Jordan, who also faced fines for wearing unauthorized shoes—a move later embraced by Nike in a clever marketing campaign.
