Taylor Swift recently shared a deeply emotional account of regaining the masters to her early albums during an episode of the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The long struggle began in 2019 when Scooter Braun purchased Big Machine Records from founder Scott Borchetta, acquiring the original recordings of Swift’s first six albums. Describing Braun as a manipulative figure, Swift was shocked and distressed by the deal, which led to a protracted dispute that finally ended in 2025 when she successfully reclaimed her masters from Shamrock Holdings.
Instead of handling negotiations through lawyers, Swift sent her mother and brother to meet with Shamrock executives a few months after Super Bowl LIX. This personal approach unexpectedly resulted in a breakthrough that moved her to tears. She described the overwhelming moment:
“I just very dramatically hit the floor for real. Like, honestly, just started bawling my eyes out. I was just like, really, really, really? What do you mean? What do you mean? And I’m like, get, get yourself together, get your shit together.”
After receiving the news, Swift called Travis Kelce, who was playing video games with friends. She recalled how he immediately ended his game session to listen to her announcement:
“He puts his headset down. He’s like, ‘Guys, gotta go.’ And I think he thought something was wrong. And you come up and I’m just like, ‘I got all my music back.’ And then just start absolutely heaving. Just dead weight. Dropped… I can’t believe it still.”
Connection Beyond Music: Swift’s Bond with Kelce Family and New Hobbies
On the same podcast episode, Swift also spoke about her growing relationship with Travis Kelce’s family, particularly his older brother Jason Kelce’s daughters. She described spending quality time baking sourdough bread with the children, a hobby she took up after completing her Eras Tour. Swift explained how she tailored her recipes to delight the kids, adding sprinkles to everything because of their fondness for colorful treats:
“This one I’ve been workshopping for the girls, because they love everything rainbow: Funfetti sourdough… They love sprinkles. We put sprinkles in everything when we hang out.”
Additionally, she has resumed sewing, another pastime she enjoys, focusing on making children’s purses and baby blankets. These activities highlight a softer, more domestic side of Swift amidst her music and public life:
“I specialize in children’s purses and baby blankets.”
Swift’s twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, is scheduled for release on October 3, marking another significant milestone following her regained control over her past work and new ventures into family life and craft.
