Kenny Pickett Browns Injury Update: QB “Turning the Corner” but Week 2 Availability Remains Uncertain
Kenny Pickett provides optimistic hamstring update amid competition for the Browns' quarterback role, but uncertainty remains.

Kenny Pickett, competing for the starting quarterback position with the Cleveland Browns, recently provided an update on his hamstring injury as the team prepares for their second preseason game. While eager to return and make an impact, Pickett acknowledged he is still uncertain about his availability for the upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In his remarks to the media, Pickett expressed cautious optimism about his rehabilitation progress, stating,

“Feel like I’m turning the corner this week. I’m getting there.”

However, when asked about playing in the next game, he remained noncommittal:

“I can’t say that yet. It will be close.”

The Browns’ quarterback room is highly congested, comprising five contenders including rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, along with veterans Tyler Huntley and Joe Flacco.

Multiple Browns Quarterbacks Face Injury Challenges

Kenny Pickett is not the only passer on Cleveland’s roster currently nursing injuries. Shedeur Sanders suffered a sprained oblique in practice and will miss the game against the Eagles, further complicating the Browns’ quarterback battle. Meanwhile, Dillon Gabriel is also managing a hamstring issue but holds a better chance of participating in the upcoming game.

Gabriel’s potential return and strong preseason showing could intensify competition for the backup quarterback role behind whoever earns the starting QB1 spot. With Joe Flacco likely starting initially, Pickett appeared to be a favorite for the secondary role before his injury placed doubt on his status.

Impact of Injuries on Browns QB Depth and Season Outlook

Pickett’s hamstring setback has limited his participation in training camp, which, combined with Sanders’ absence, leaves the Browns with multiple quarterbacks either sidelined or working back from injury. This situation creates a fluid quarterback hierarchy, giving injured players slightly more time but also opening opportunities for others to impress coaches.

As the Browns prepare to face the Eagles in the preseason, the quarterback competition remains wide open, with health status playing a significant role in determining who secures the important roles of starter and backup. The team’s decisions in the coming weeks will be critical for how the QB room shapes up heading into the regular season.
