Stefon Diggs aims for Week 1 return after ACL rehabilitation
Stefon Diggs, who signed a lucrative three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Patriots this offseason, has been focusing on recovering from a torn ACL sustained in Week 8 last season. While Diggs hasn’t made a firm commitment on his availability, he has expressed optimism about playing in the opener.
Speaking on The Scoop City Podcast, Diggs commented on his condition and goals for the start of the season.
“I feel great. I’m pushing the needle always. I’m always doing more than less. We’ll see about Week 1,” Diggs said. “I don’t know how I feel about it. We’ll see. Coaches aren’t too excited. I’m not too excited. I’m just trying to take a day by day. So we’ll see. It looks like we just don’t know where it’s gonna go. Yeah, yeah.”
When asked directly about his Week 1 status, Diggs deferred the decision to head coach Mike Vrabel.
“I don’t know. It’s up in the air right now. You gotta take that up with coach Vrabel,” he said.
Diggs is expected to be the Patriots’ main offensive weapon this season, boasting four Pro Bowl selections and one first-team All-Pro nod in his career. Last year, despite battling injuries with the Houston Texans, he recorded 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns.
