C.J. Stroud Praises Bryce Young’s Resilience: A Brotherhood Built Beyond the NFL Draft Drama

Panthers quarterback Bryce Young and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud have been connected ever since they were selected first and second in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, their connection extends far beyond that moment, rooted in their shared experiences playing youth football and basketball together in California before rising through collegiate football ranks as standout talents.

Early Careers and Initial Challenges

While Bryce Young was the first overall pick in the draft, C.J. Stroud was the one who quickly saw NFL success, leading the Houston Texans to an AFC South division title and earning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Conversely, Young faced struggles during his rookie season and was even benched early in his second year. Stroud’s difficulties later in his career did not prevent Houston from repeating as division champions, highlighting contrasting paths for both players early on.

Stroud’s Reflection on Young’s Growth

Following a joint practice session, C.J. Stroud praised Bryce Young’s resilience and character, referring to him as “my brother during a media session. Stroud expressed admiration for Young’s ability to rebound and improve after setbacks.

He’s very even keeled, very to himself. I think I’ve seen a dog come out of him that he has that a lot of people haven’t seen,

Stroud said, via the Panthers website.

But I know he dealt with some frustrations. I think it’s good that we go through these ups and downs to refocus you back on what’s important. I think he had that, and I had that last year as well. I think he bounced back like he should, and we all know he can. He’s a heck of a player, one of the best quarterbacks I’ve ever seen in my life. He needs some help around him too. I’m just really proud of that guy. Just the same way he said about me, through every ups and downs, every valley and peak, he stayed the same guy, stayed loyal and stayed a friend and a brother. So, I’m very appreciative of him.

The Future of a Brotherhood Beyond the Draft

Their story is far from over, with both quarterbacks facing a promising yet challenging NFL journey ahead. Stroud’s recognition of Young’s development and their mutual respect demonstrate a brotherhood that transcends competition and draft expectations. This ongoing connection between these two athletes symbolizes perseverance and shared support as they continue to carve out their legacies in professional football.
