Following their unprecedented second consecutive Stanley Cup win, the Florida Panthers are aiming to become the first team since the New York Islanders in the early 1980s to achieve a three-peat. On August 8, Electronic Arts (EA) revealed that Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk will feature on the cover of their upcoming <a href="https://www.buzzineintl.com/category/hockey/nhl/”>NHL 26 video game, marking a major milestone for both Tkachuk and the franchise.
Historical Panthers Featured on Previous NHL Game Covers
Matthew Tkachuk is not the first Panther to be honored on the cover of a hockey video game. In fact, goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck was showcased on the cover of NHL 97, a game released in September 1996. At that time, NHL 97 was available across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Super Nintendo Entertainment System, highlighting the early recognition of Panthers talent.
Evolution of the Panthers Franchise Since the Late 1990s
When Vanbiesbrouck appeared on the cover of NHL 97, the Panthers were a young team fresh off their first Stanley Cup Final appearance, where they were swept by the Colorado Avalanche. Although they made the playoffs the following season, losing in the first round to the New York Rangers, the years after saw limited postseason success with only five playoff appearances until the team’s revival in the 2020-21 season. Since then, the Panthers have reached three consecutive Stanley Cup Finals and secured multiple championships, symbolizing a new dominant era.

Matthew Tkachuk’s Impact and Achievements with the Panthers
Tkachuk immediately made an impact after joining the Panthers in the 2022-23 season, earning an All-Star selection in his rookie year. The following 2023-24 season saw him contribute significantly to the team’s first Stanley Cup victory. Beyond club success, Tkachuk represented Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, winning a silver medal, and was named this summer to the Presidential Fitness Council alongside hockey legends Wayne Gretzky and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
Over three regular seasons, Tkachuk has accumulated 88 goals and 166 assists in 211 games, while adding 25 goals and 44 assists in his recent playoff appearances. His remarkable skill and consistent performance have made him indispensable to the Panthers, a level of excellence reflected in his selection to the NHL 26 cover.
Looking Ahead: Panthers’ Ambitions and Tkachuk’s Perspective
General manager Bill Zito has successfully retained the Panthers’ core roster during the offseason, signaling the team’s intent to pursue a fourth consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearance. Tkachuk, aware of the rarity and importance of this opportunity, remains grounded and determined to give his best effort every game.
“These are opportunities that you can’t take for granted,” Matthew said. “When you have a team like this, you’ve got to make sure that you give everything you can, not matter what you’ve done in the past or not.” —Matthew Tkachuk, Florida Panthers forward
Adding to the excitement, Matthew Tkachuk’s brother Brady, captain of the Ottawa Senators, and their father Keith Tkachuk will also be featured together on the NHL 26 deluxe edition. This inclusion makes the game a unique celebration of the Tkachuk family legacy. NHL 26 is set to launch on September 12 and will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S platforms.
