Alex Bregman Hails Red Sox’s Roman Anthony as One of MLB’s Best Young Hitters

Boston Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony has quickly drawn attention for his impressive maturity and hitting skills, earning high praise from All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman. Following Boston’s walk-off victory on Friday against the Miami Marlins, Bregman highlighted Anthony’s remarkable performance and plate discipline, which played a crucial role in the game’s outcome.

During the ninth inning rally, Anthony and Bregman each drew back-to-back walks against Marlins pitcher Josh Simpson. Anthony then scored the game-winning run thanks to a Trevor Story single to right field, cementing his impact at the top of Boston’s order.

Anthony’s Plate Discipline Stands Out Among Young Players

Bregman described Anthony as

“one of the best hitters in all of baseball,”

emphasizing the youngster’s approach at the plate and mental toughness. Despite a tough stretch in Houston where Anthony went 0-for-4 with several strikeouts against a strong pitcher, and then facing two strikeouts against Sandy Alcántara, Anthony didn’t push too hard in subsequent at-bats.

I feel like he’s one of the best hitters in all of baseball,

Bregman said, according to NESN.

And he’s very mature, and you see that when (he went) 0-for-4 in Houston with a few punch outs against a really good arm, and then you punch out twice against (Sandy) Alcántara, and then you don’t go out and chase hits your next two at-bats. You make them throw the ball over the plate. And I mean, the plate discipline is crazy for his age, and also the maturity to not try and do too much in those situations is special. So, hitting behind him is awesome.

Anthony’s Strong Season and Long-Term Commitment to the Red Sox

Through 188 at-bats this season, Roman Anthony holds a slash line of .277 batting average, .401 on-base percentage, .436 slugging percentage, and an .837 OPS. He has contributed four home runs, 23 RBIs, and drawn 34 walks—numbers that reflect the plate discipline Bregman highlighted.

On August 6, Anthony secured his future in Boston by signing an eight-year, $130 million contract extension. The talented player from West Palm Beach is expected to remain a foundational part of the Red Sox lineup for years to come, a development that bodes well for the team’s continued competitiveness.

Boston’s Position in the Playoff Race Remains Competitive

Heading into Saturday, the Red Sox sit in second place within the American League Wild Card race, trailing the Seattle Mariners by just one game and maintaining a 1.5-game lead over the New York Yankees. With players like Roman Anthony contributing consistently, Boston remains in a strong position as the season progresses.

Looking Ahead: The Potential Impact of Anthony and Bregman’s Partnership

The combination of Roman Anthony and Alex Bregman at the top of Boston’s batting order is already recognized as one of the most effective in Major League Baseball. Their ability to work together and complement each other’s strengths is a key factor in the Red Sox’s recent success. If Bregman decides to stay with Boston beyond this season, pairing his veteran experience with Anthony’s youthful talent could provide a lasting competitive edge.
