McLaren Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri has announced his new role as an ambassador for the My Room Children‘s Cancer Charity, motivated by a touching encounter at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix. The Australian racer revealed that meeting a young fan named Kruz Seumanutafa, who is fighting a rare leukemia, inspired him to support the organization more deeply.
A Personal Connection Sparks Commitment
Piastri met six-year-old Kruz during the season opener at Albert Park, an experience that left a profound impact on the driver. Kruz’s mother, Lauren, spoke about the boy’s journey and their family’s connection to Formula 1. She said,
“That was absolutely amazing – that was everything we could have asked for as a wish come true,”
and added,
“His dad has been an F1 fan for years, so, naturally, his kids are also F1 fans.”
Lauren further explained the challenges they faced, sharing,
“He got a bone marrow transplant last year, and he relapsed in September. We’re currently praying for a miracle. He was actually in hospital the last two days. He was in theatre [Friday], but you wouldn’t know it. It definitely takes our mind off what’s to come, being here. This is amazing for our family.”
Inspiration Leads to Advocacy and Support
Following their meeting, Piastri has been kept informed about Kruz’s health and the charity’s ongoing work. This ongoing connection encouraged the Formula 1 driver to become actively involved. In an Instagram video, Piastri shared,
“Some of you might remember that I met Kruz this year at the Australian Grand Prix, thanks to the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.”
He acknowledged the devastating nature of cancer, especially in children, and voiced his pride in joining the charity’s efforts.
He continued,
“So yeah, I’m really looking forward to working with them all on trying to raise more incredibly valuable funds, and also just support and awareness around cancer. So looking forward to working with My Room and yeah, thanks for all your support, everyone.”
His words reflect a heartfelt dedication to making a difference through this partnership.
Fundraising Efforts Through Racing Memorabilia
Before officially becoming an ambassador, Piastri had already contributed by donating a race-worn helmet from the 2024 season. This item is planned for auction, with proceeds going directly to the My Room Children‘s Cancer Charity, aiming to raise vital funds for children facing cancer.

Significance of the Partnership for Awareness and Support
Oscar Piastri’s charity ambassadorship announcement highlights the power of personal connections to motivate public figures to use their platforms for important causes. By aligning with a charity focused on helping young cancer patients like Kruz, Piastri has committed to raising awareness and funding, potentially encouraging fans and the broader community to also support these efforts. His involvement reinforces the growing intersection between sport and social impact, inspiring hope for families affected by childhood cancer.
