Oscar Piastri Becomes Ambassador for Children’s Cancer Charity After Touching Fan Encounter
Oscar Piastri joins My Room Children’s Cancer Charity as ambassador, inspired by young fan's cancer battle at Australian Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri, the leading driver in the 2025 Formula 1 championship, has recently announced his new role as an ambassador for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity. This announcement came through an Instagram video, where Piastri shared that a heartfelt encounter with a young fan inspired him to support the cause. The My Room charity is dedicated to assisting children with cancer and their families across Australia.

Background and Mission of the My Room Charity

Established in 1993 by Dr. Keith Waters and Mary McGowan OAM, My Room began as an effort to renovate the cancer ward at The Royal Children’s Hospital. Since its inception, the charity has raised more than $33 million, which has been allocated to providing care and support for families facing childhood cancer, as well as funding research aimed at finding a cure. The organization continues to be a vital source of guidance and assistance for young patients and their loved ones during difficult times.

A Personal Story Drives Piastri to Take Action

Piastri’s decision to become an ambassador was deeply influenced by meeting six-year-old Kruz Seumanutafa at the Australian Grand Prix held at Albert Park. Kruz is fighting a rare form of leukemia, and Piastri’s interaction with her left a lasting impact. During the event, he presented her with a signed replica helmet, a moment that connected him more closely to the challenges faced by children battling cancer.

Reflecting on this experience in his Instagram video, Piastri explained the effect it had on him:

“Some of you might remember that I met Kruz this year at the Australian Grand Prix, thanks to the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.”

He continued,

“The team have been keeping me updated with Kruz’s journey, and I’ve really kind of understood a lot more about what the charity is all about and how they support very young kids with cancer.”

He added,

“Obviously, any kind of cancer is extremely devastating, let alone in children. So I’m very proud to announce that I’m going to become an ambassador for the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.”

Oscar Piastri’s Commitment to Raising Awareness and Funds

As an ambassador, Piastri expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the charity’s mission.

“I’m really looking forward to working with them all on trying to raise more incredibly valuable funds, and also just support and awareness around cancer. So looking forward to working with My Room and yeah, thanks for all your support everyone,”

he stated.

On the official Ambassadors page for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity, Piastri’s biography highlights how his experience with Kruz has deepened his understanding of the charity’s efforts. He wrote,

“Since then, I’ve developed an understanding of the work that the charity provides during such difficult times, offering guidance and support across multiple areas. It feels a natural progression to become involved as an ambassador.”

He also noted,

“Children’s cancer is devastating for all involved and it’s remarkable to see My Room’s tireless work to help in any way they can.”
