Corey Conners and Nick Taylor will once again represent Canada at the 2024 Tour Championship, marking the second time in three years the pair have qualified for the <a href="https://www.buzzineintl.com/category/golf/pga/”>PGA finale. Their top-30 finishes in the FedEx Cup standings following the BMW Championship secured their spots for the event scheduled from August 21 to 24 at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta.
Strong Standings and Close Canadian Contention
Conners enters the championship ranked 19th, while Taylor holds the 25th position. Nick Taylor Pendrith came close to joining his compatriots but finished just outside the cut in 33rd place. This marks only the second occasion since the FedEx Cup‘s inception in 2007 that two Canadians will compete among the 30-player field, with Conners and Taylor also achieving this milestone at last year’s championship.
New Even Par Start Levels the Playing Field
The 2024 tournament will see all 30 golfers begin at even par, a departure from the previous starting-strokes format that benefited higher-ranked players. This change creates an open opportunity for Conners and Taylor to challenge the reigning World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, who is coming off five wins in his last ten events, including the recent BMW Championship.
High Stakes Await at East Lake
The stakes remain high with the winner of the Tour Championship earning the FedEx Cup title, a $10 million prize, and a five-year PGA Tour exemption. As Conners and Taylor prepare to compete against the world’s top golfers, this year’s format could enable fresh surprises and potentially shake up the leaderboard.
