Kelsey Mitchell delivered a spectacular performance as she scored a career-high 38 points on Sunday, leading the Indiana Fever to a 99-93 overtime win against the Connecticut Sun. Mitchell’s explosive scoring, including 34 points after halftime, powered the Fever’s comeback after trailing by 21 points late in the third quarter.

Mitchell was highly efficient, making 11 of 22 shots from the floor, connected on five of eight three-pointers, and was nearly perfect at the free-throw line, hitting 11 of 12 attempts. She also dominated the overtime period by scoring her team’s first 10 points before Lexie Hull’s late corner three-pointer sealed the game with just under 45 seconds remaining.

Supporting Contributions Propel Indiana to Win

Odyssey Sims contributed significantly with 19 points and seven assists, helping Indiana overcome the absence of star guard Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined due to a right groin injury. Natasha Howard also added 18 points while Aliyah Boston contributed a strong all-around effort with 14 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Boston’s clutch 16-foot jumper with 21.8 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime, where Indiana sealed their comeback. Despite missing the shot on the final Connecticut possession, Indiana secured the rebound but were unable to attempt a successful last-second shot before overtime began.

Connecticut Sun’s Early Dominance Fades in Final Quarter

The Connecticut Sun started the game with authority, scoring 12 straight points in the first quarter and holding Indiana scoreless for over four minutes. By the end of the first quarter, the Sun led 24-11 and continued to build their advantage in the second quarter, reaching a 20-point lead after a three-pointer by Marina Mabrey. The Sun led 48-29 at halftime.

Connecticut’s Marina Mabrey scored 27 points along with distributing five assists, while Tina Charles added 21 points. Bench players also stepped up with Saniya Rivers contributing 15 points and five blocks, and Aneesha Morris providing a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Nevertheless, the Sun could not maintain control in the fourth quarter.

Third-Quarter Shift Sets Stage for Indiana’s Comeback

Indiana began to rally in the third quarter despite the injury setback losing starting guard Sophie Cunningham to a knee issue. Mitchell ignited the comeback with 14 points in that quarter, helping cut the deficit to eight points. Connecticut seemed poised to maintain their lead as Leila Lacan’s buzzer-beating 30-foot shot pushed the margin back up to 11 heading into the fourth quarter.

However, the Fever’s resilience and Mitchell’s scoring surge shifted momentum as Indiana took control in the final frame and overtime to secure the win, improving their record to 19-16 while Connecticut fell to 6-27.
