Robert MacIntyre delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 BMW Championship, finishing solo second with a 13-under-par total after 72 holes. The Scottish golfer ended just two shots behind Scottie Scheffler, the tournament winner, boosting his position in the Official Golf World Rankings to a career-best 8th place.
The DP World Tour celebrated MacIntyre’s achievement on their official Instagram account, highlighting that he is the first Scottish player in nearly two decades to secure a spot within the world’s top 10. Before the final round, MacIntyre held a strong lead but faltered with a 3-over-par score on the last day despite impressive earlier rounds of 68, 73, 64, and 62. His prize from the $20 million purse totaled $2,160,000, reflecting his elite status in the tournament.
Final Round Challenges Derailed MacIntyre’s Bid for Victory
During the third day of the BMW Championship, MacIntyre appeared poised for a win, but his final round did not meet expectations. He struggled early, making one birdie countered by four bogeys, two of which occurred on the first two holes. This rocky start significantly impacted his ability to maintain the lead.
Explaining his difficult start in a post–tournament news conference, MacIntyre said:
“No, I got off to an absolutely horrific start. I just expected jumpers on 1 and 2. 1, it’s come out dead, and then it’s got a massive mud ball just short of the green. Hard to control the chip. But I just felt great going out today. I wasn’t even expecting to be over par, to be honest. I was really expecting to go out there, foot down, and perform the way I have the last couple days.”

He added further insight on his struggles:
“My golf ball was going miles today. I don’t know why. I need to work that out. But when I got the game back in somewhat of a shape, I went over the back of the par-3s. I feel I’ve hit good shots, and I’ve gone miles.”
