Scottie Scheffler secured another impressive win at the BMW Championship on Sunday, rallying from four strokes behind to claim victory. Shooting a final round 67, he finished the tournament at 15 under par, marking his fifth triumph of the 2025 season.
The defining moment arrived on the 17th hole when Scheffler executed an extraordinary 81-foot chip shot that ignited the crowd and firmly established his lead. This highlight showcased his composure under pressure and paved the way for a dramatic finish.
A Challenging 17th Hole Mastered
The 17th hole at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland is notoriously demanding, featuring thick rough and a water hazard guarding the green. Only 24 birdies or better were recorded on this hole during the entire tournament, underscoring its difficulty.
Despite this, Scheffler, leading by a single stroke, holed out the long chip from the rough, doubling his advantage with just one hole left to play. This critical shot drew a huge reaction from the spectators and demonstrated his exceptional skill and nerves.
Speaking after the tournament, Scheffler described the conditions and his approach to the shot:
“It’s kind of a bowl pin back there, where everything kind of funnels towards it. I knew it was just going to be really fast so do my best to get it down there and give myself a good look for par,”
Scheffler said in a video from TenGolf.
“And when [the chip] came out, it came out how we wanted it to and then it started breaking and started looking better and better. It was definitely nice to see that one go in.”
Adapting Without His Usual Caddie
This week presented an additional challenge for Scheffler as his regular caddie, Ted Scott, was absent due to a family emergency. Michael Cromie, known for caddying Chris Kirk, stepped in to assist Scheffler and helped maintain his high level of play.

Reflecting on the change, Scheffler shared his thoughts on working with Cromie:
“It was definitely different for sure, but Cromie was doing a great job,”
Scheffler said about his caddie situation.
“He’s a guy that I can trust. He’s one of Ted’s good buddies. … I felt we did a good job of talking through our shots and staying patient and [keeping] doing the right things. Even when things were looking a little bit squirly on the back nine, we did a good job of staying focused and [continuing] to hit shots at the right targets and close the tournament out nicely.”
Overcoming Obstacles on the Final Day
Scheffler’s final round wasn’t without challenges; he matched the bogey total from his previous rounds by recording three on Sunday. However, his six birdies, most notably the spectacular chip on 17, were enough to secure victory over Robert MacIntyre.
The win further cements Scheffler’s status at the top of the PGA Tour, affirming his dominant form as he leads the FedExCup standings heading into the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
Looking Ahead to the Tour Championship and Ryder Cup
With his BMW Championship victory, Scheffler enters the Tour Championship as the favorite, facing a field composed of the 30 best players in the PGA Tour. This year’s format eliminates the usual starting stroke advantages, meaning the winner of the event will also claim the prestigious FedExCup title.
Following the Tour Championship, Scheffler will shift his focus to representing the United States as a leading figure in the Ryder Cup. As a former Texas Longhorn, his performance continues to inspire high hopes for the upcoming international competition.
