Aaron Glenn Clears the Air: No Trade for Breece Hall Despite Jets Running Back Committee

The New York Jets are preparing to utilize a running back committee that includes Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis for the upcoming season. Hall, who was selected 36th overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, remains the most experienced player in the running back group. Although the Jets intend to spread carries among these backs, head coach Aaron Glenn emphasized that this approach does not signal any intention to trade Hall.

Aaron Glenn Explains the Running Back Strategy and Addresses Trade Rumors

Coach Glenn reiterated his support for Hall while detailing how the team plans to work with three different running backs. He praised Allen’s contributions and acknowledged the varied skills each player brings to the table. Glenn directly refuted trade speculation linked to the committee approach, stressing his desire to keep all three backs in the lineup.

I think he’s shown exactly who he can be when it comes to the running game,

Glenn said about Braelon Allen.

I can’t say off the top of my head how many yards he’s averaging per play, but, I think it’s up there for the most part. We have three good running backs and I keep saying that. They all have different skill sets that we’re going to utilize. And that does not mean I’m trading Breece. It does not. I’m going to say that right now. I just like having three good guys. Hell, I wish I had more.

—Aaron Glenn, New York Jets Head Coach

Context for the Running Back Committee From Glenn’s Perspective

Glenn’s coaching background with the Detroit Lions, known for effectively managing a running back committee, informs his current strategy. He recognizes the talent available in the Jets’ backfield, noting it as a strength rather than a challenge. Early offseason comments about running backs Allen and Davis were misunderstood by some as criticisms of Hall, but Glenn has since clarified his full confidence in Hall’s role moving into 2025.

What This Means for the Jets’ Offensive Approach Moving Forward

The Jets’ decision to maintain a running back committee featuring Hall signals a commitment to leveraging diverse skill sets in their offense. Rather than focusing on a single star back, New York aims to balance the workload while preserving Hall as a key contributor. This approach could bring a fresh dynamic to their running game, potentially mirroring the successful committee style the Lions have employed.

As the season unfolds, fans and analysts will watch closely to see how the Jets integrate these three backs and whether the running back committee enhances the team’s offensive output without disrupting Hall’s focal role.
