Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Shoots Down Breece Hall Trade Rumors, Plans Dynamic RB Rotation for 2024

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has firmly dismissed circulating trade rumors involving running back Breece Hall, confirming that he expects Hall to remain a key part of the team’s offense in the upcoming season. Glenn emphasized this stance during a media appearance on Tuesday, amid ongoing offseason speculation around Hall’s future with the Jets.

Three-Back Rotation to Feature Hall, Allen, and Davis

Glenn revealed plans to employ a rotation of three running backs at the start of the 2024 season, highlighting Hall alongside second-year players Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. The coach believes these backs bring varied abilities that will enhance the team’s offensive versatility. Glenn stated,

We have like three good running backs, and I keep saying that,

and added,

Listen, they all have different skill sets that we’re going to utilize. And that does not mean that I’m trading Breece. OK? Does not! So, I’m going to say that right now. I just like having three good guys. Hell, I wish I had more, but we don’t.

Hall’s Performance and Injury Recovery

Breece Hall led the Jets with 876 rushing yards last season and recorded five rushing touchdowns for the second consecutive year. His rookie campaign in 2022 started explosively before a torn ACL in Week 7 sidelined him. Since returning, Hall has demonstrated strong productivity, nearly reaching 1,000 rushing yards in 2023. In addition to his rushing impact, Hall has significantly contributed to the passing game, amassing 76 receptions for 591 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Contributions of Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis

Rookie Braelon Allen compiled 334 rushing yards with an average of 3.6 yards per carry during his first season. Isaiah Davis, meanwhile, showed promising efficiency with 5.8 yards per carry on limited touches. Davis has reportedly become a favored option within Glenn’s coaching staff, potentially increasing competition for touches in the backfield.

Contract Landscape and Future Considerations

This offseason, the Jets secured major contract extensions for fellow 2022 draftees wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner. Discussions have suggested the team might hesitate to extend a similarly lucrative deal to Hall, possibly prompting trade considerations if Hall performs exceptionally early in the season. Hall himself posted a cryptic message on social media in April following reports of trade talks, but Glenn’s remarks make clear that the running back is expected to remain an integral part of the team, at least for now.

Outlook for the Jets’ Backfield Strategy

With a diverse group of running backs and a clear plan for utilizing their distinct talents, the Jets look to build a balanced and dynamic offense in 2024. While the possibility of a trade cannot be entirely ruled out as the season progresses, Aaron Glenn’s current approach signals confidence in Hall’s role and in maintaining depth through a multi-player rotation, aiming for sustained offensive strength as the team prepares for the upcoming NFL year.
