Corbin Carroll Sets Diamondbacks’ Triples Record With Historic Two-Triple Night

On Tuesday night at Chase Field, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll made history by hitting two triples in a close game against the Cleveland Guardians. His back-to-back triples marked the 15th and 16th of the season, breaking the franchise record previously held by Tony Womack, who recorded 14 triples in 2000.

Carroll’s feat also highlighted his exceptional speed and hitting skill, as this was his fourth multi-triple game of the year — a rare accomplishment achieved by only one other player since 1947, Carl Crawford in 2004.

Details of Carroll’s Remarkable Two-Triples Performance

Corbin Carroll opened his double-triple night with a sharp line drive down the right field line in the fourth inning, traveling at 104 mph. Guardians right fielder Nolan Jones had difficulty handling the ball, allowing Carroll to reach third base safely. Carroll then scored on a groundout following a collision at first base involving Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Brayan Rocchio.

One plate appearance later, Carroll drove a blazing 110 mph line drive deep to right field, just missing a home run that bounced off the wall. Once again, he safely reached third base and subsequently scored on a single by Geraldo Perdomo.

Beyond his triples prowess, Carroll has also been showcasing impressive power this season, having hit a career-best 27 home runs, including a massive 474-foot homer against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday — one of the longest homers in the major leagues this season.

Impact of Batting Order Adjustment on Carroll’s Performance

Carroll’s slash line improved to .254/.329/.560 with an OPS of .889 after his second triple on Tuesday night, reflecting a solid adjustment to a new spot in the batting order. While he was primarily the Diamondbacks’ leadoff hitter because of his speed, manager Torey Lovullo recently moved him to the third spot, allowing Geraldo Perdomo to lead off. This change has given Carroll more opportunities to add power to his game by receiving better lineup protection.

Despite challenges earlier in the 2024 season, Carroll has shown a clear resurgence. Though his batting average and on-base percentage have remained modest, his combination of speed and slugging power continues to impress fans and shape the Diamondbacks’ offensive strategy.

Carroll’s Progress Among Active MLB Triples Leaders

In his brief three-season career, Corbin Carroll has already accumulated 42 triples. Among active major league players, he trails only Mike Trout and Starling Marte, who share the current lead with 55 triples each. Carroll’s record-breaking night further cements his status as one of the game’s quickest and most dynamic players.

This milestone adds to the growing excitement surrounding Carroll’s future impact on the Diamondbacks and Major League Baseball overall.
