PGA TOUR Future Competition Committee, chaired by Tiger Woods, aims for major changes in golf’s competitive model

The PGA TOUR has formed the Future Competition Committee to develop an improved competitive structure that enhances the value of the TOUR for fans, players, and partners. This announcement was made by PGA TOUR CEO Brian Rolapp during a press conference at East Lake Golf Club, the venue for the current TOUR Championship.

Chaired by Tiger Woods, the nine-member committee will conduct an extensive review of the TOUR’s existing competitive system, seeking to shape the future of professional golf’s competition model with innovative and impactful changes.

Committee’s Goals and Guiding Principles

Brian Rolapp emphasized the committee’s ambition by stating,

“The goal is not incremental change,”

and added,

The goal is significant change.

Adopting a “clean sheet” approach, the committee plans to gather feedback from a wide range of stakeholders including fans, players, and business partners. Their mission is to balance respect for the traditions of golf while being unrestrained by them in their proposals.

The committee will be guided by three core principles: parity, scarcity, and simplicity. They aim to reinforce the TOUR’s merit-based system, encourage frequent competition among the sport’s top players to boost fan engagement, and create a stronger link between the regular season and postseason culminating in an enhanced TOUR Championship experience.
